Grand Union Canal Transfer

Community Update and Scoping Report consultation

Published: 15 April 2025

Since our last update, we have been working to progress our proposals for the Grand Union Canal Transfer. Our work since our last update has included starting our extensive environmental surveys, as well as considering all of the feedback we received from our first public consultation.

We have now published our second Community Update for the project which provides an overview of this work, which you can view on our website at https://guctransfer.co.uk/resources/document-library/.

The update also highlights a key milestone in our programme as we have recently submitted our Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Report to the Secretary of State, via the Planning Inspectorate. This report seeks a Scoping Opinion about the scope, assessment methodology and level of detail to be provided in our Environmental Statement (which provides the findings of the EIA). To help people understand more about this important part of the process, we have published a news article on our website at https://guctransfer.co.uk/the-scheme/how-it-will-develop/#the-regulators-alliance-for-progressing-infrastructure-development-rapid

We’d welcome your support in sharing this information with your residents through any existing channels you have. People can also register to receive future updates directly by signing up here.

As a relevant parish council on the scheme route, we understand the Planning Inspectorate has now shared the Scoping Report with you as they carry out the required consultation to inform their Scoping Opinion on the suitability of our proposed EIA approach.

If you have any questions regarding the Scoping Report, the consultation process, or the Grand Union Canal Transfer or would like a meeting to discuss the proposals with the project team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at contact@guctransfer.co.uk.

Kind regards,

Grand Union Canal Transfer team
